The Story of Trebron Manufacturing

For years, Trebron of Coralville, Iowa, built, remodeled, and reinforced mechanical tow trucks during the hydraulic movement of the 1980s and 1990s. Norbert “Bert” Bertling was at the forefront of this innovation, introducing hydraulics to the towing industry. He was instrumental in inventing the “Trebron Leg” — a hydraulic telescoping rear leg that stabilized mechanical tow trucks during heavy recoveries.

With just one advertisement in Tow Times magazine, demand exploded. Bert often loaded a pickup with weld-on legs, drove to the East Coast, and installed them at customer shops himself. These visits built strong relationships with industry leaders, and word-of-mouth soon established Trebron as a premier name in towing innovation.

In 2018, Guy’s Truck and Tractor purchased Trebron from Bert and relocated the business to Kieler, Wisconsin. Guy’s Truck and Tractor had long been a customer, and the move made sense for both parties. With Aaron’s tow truck operator experience and welding and fabrication skills, it was a natural fit. Bert himself often said he was proud we were “taking Trebron to the next level.”
